Moreh Nain At the foot of the Hill of Moreh ("teacher") there were two ancient villages in which the bible records the raising of children took place. To the south in Sheunem, where in 2 Kings 4, Elisha raised the child of a family who befriended the prophet and offered him lodging. To the North in the village of Nain, it happened that Jesus was visiting Nain when he encountered a funeral procession. A widow had lost her only son. |

Feeling the mother’s sorrow, Jesus told her not to cry. Then, laying his hands upon the coffin, Jesus told the departed son to rise"He said, ‘Young man, I say to you, get up!’ The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother" [Luke 7:14-15]. The reaction of the people of the region recognized Jesus was like the prophet of old. The name Nain is probably a corruption of the Hebrew word for "pleasant" (na’im). It is located in territory that was allotted to and settled by the Tribe of Issachar [Joshua 19:17-22.] |
