Elah Valley Everyone has heard about David, the boy with the courage to face a Goliath. Against all odds, using his sling, young David killed the giant warrior with the help of the God of Israel. With that successful shot, David shattered the confidence of the Philistines, and for a time ended of their attempt to conquer the tribe of Judah. [1 Samuel 17:4-51]. This famous battle took place in the Elah Valley [1 Samuel 21:9]. Today huge satellite dishes used in Israel’s communications systems dominate the valley. To the east, one road leads to Bethlehem. Another takes you to Gush Etzion by way of the Path of the 35. In 1948, during the War of Independence, Arabs Legionaries besieged the four Jewish settlements that made up the Etzion Bloc. Thirty-five soldiers were killed in an ambush as they attempted to break the siege and bring supplies to the beleaguered settlers. |
